FareStart is a culinary job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. Over the past 17 years, FareStart has provided opportunities for over 3,000 people to transform their lives, while also serving over 3.5 million meals to disadvantaged men, women, and children.

The FareStart Community is deeply saddened by the passing of our good friend, Chef Jon Welsh.  Jon was a beloved member of the FareStart family beginning in 2006 when he joined the Contract Kitchen’s shelter team.  Jon told us that he found his calling when he found FareStart. He found joy and  fulfillment every day working with students and co-workers to help to prepare and serve thousands of meals to those in need.  Chef Jon made a lasting difference in our lives and in our community.  He will be profoundly missed.
